Student Rotation

General Diagnostic Radiology

The general diagnostic radiology rotation training is a four-week block with exposure to the specialty radiology sections of abdominal imaging, angiography and interventional radiology, chest radiology, diagnostic ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, breast imaging, musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, nuclear radiology and pediatric radiology. Rotating students are expected to attend departmental and medical student teaching conferences, prepare a case presentation and complete a procedure log of observed exams. Completion of a self-exam is also required.

Student rotation objectives are:

  • To gain an introductory understanding of the role of diagnostic imaging in the care of patients.
  • To gain an appreciation of the risks and benefits of radiological examinations.
  • To gain an understanding of the clinical indications and sequencing of imaging studies.

Subspecialty Radiology

Rotations will be either two weeks or four weeks. Student must complete a four-week general radiology rotation prior to doing subspecialty rotations. Subspecialty rotations are available in pediatric radiology, neuroradiology and interventional radiology. Other subspecialty rotations may be available upon discussion with the medical student education director, Shaked Laks, M.D. (shaked.laks@ttuhsc.edu)

Rotations will go from July of the current year to the following June. A maximum of four third- or fourth-year students will be accepted per general radiology rotation block. A maximum of two students will be accepted per subspecialty rotation block.

Students are required to schedule at the CME office at student affairs with Lourdes C. Davis. Requirements must be met accordingly.
