Program Overview

The Body Imaging Fellowship is a Texas Medical Board-approved one-year fellowship offering advanced training in cross sectional imaging of the body with a focus on CT and MRI. Fellows are responsible for interpreting and protocoling a high volume of CT and MRI studies generated by a level 1 trauma center emergency room, inpatient hospital and multiple subspecialty outpatient clinics. Fellows will be exposed to a wide spectrum of pathologies, including complex trauma and oncology cases.

Clinical Experience

The primary training site for the fellowship program is the University Medical Center of El Paso which is staffed by the radiology department of TTUHSC El Paso. Most imaging studies are generated on-site with a 3T- Siemens magnet and multiple state-of-the-art multi-detector CT scanners. Studies are also performed on a 1.5T-Siemans magnet and CT scanner located at an off-site outpatient clinic. Up-to date imaging techniques and cutting-edge technology are utilized and incorporated into all imaging protocols.

Curriculum

The fellowship is divided into 13, four-week blocks. A typical rotation schedule includes nine blocks of CT/MR, one block of US, one block of elective/research and four weeks of vacations. Five conference days are also available to fellows along with an educational stipend.

There are multiple mandatory and optional multidisciplinary conferences, opportunities for formal and informal teaching of medical students and residents and opportunities for clinical research. Fellows are encouraged and supported to present their research at scientific meetings.
