Graduate Medical Education

General Information
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine offers nine residency programs with openings for approximately 205 residents. In addition, the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine serves as a major participating institution for the orthopedic surgery residency program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. All residency programs meet the accreditation standards of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Medical Specialties. All graduating residents are eligible candidates for specialty boards. The program director of each department manages the recruiting, education, training, and evaluation of its residents. The Graduate Medical Education Committee and the associate dean for graduate medical education are responsible for general oversight and monitoring of all residency programs.
Most of the clinical experience residents receive is provided at University Medical Center of El Paso. It is El Paso's only not-for-profit, community-owned hospital and health care system and a regional referral center for patients in need of specialty care. It is the only El Paso hospital ever to be named one of the America's Top 100 hospitals.
Other local institutions and private practice physicians and groups participate in resident graduate medical education and training.
