Radiology Research Division

The current efforts of our Research Division are the application of MRI methods to better
understand the anatomical and functional changes associated with nicotine reward and
withdrawal mechanisms, as well as neural connectivity and structural changes resulting
from weight loss in obesity. Other ongoing research projects include the study of the
radiological characteristics of COVID-19 in Hispanics and the application of gastric
emptying scintigraphy in the evaluation of gastric motility disorders. Previous research
studies have focused on CNS mechanisms in cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) by applying
EEG and MRI, structural and fMRI brain differences between Alzheimer’s disease in white
Hispanic patients versus Alzheimer’s disease in white non-Hispanic patients, and the
study of white matter tract connectivity changes after Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in the
military. We further provide support to our faculty and residents in study design, IRB
approval, study management and data analysis.
