M.D. and Master of Public Health Option
The TTUHSC El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine (PLFSOM) and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health-El Paso Regional Campus (UTSPH) offer a MD-MPH degree option leading to a medical degree (M.D.) and a Master in Public Health (M.P.H.). This option provides students who are matched to attend the PLFSOM with the opportunity to consider this M.D./M.P.H. track. This track will minimize duplication in course content, maximize efficiency of academic interactions and reduce time and costs incurred compared to earning the degrees independently. Students in this M.D./M.P.H. track will be enrolled separately in both universities and receive two separate degrees awarded by both institutions upon successful completion of this MD-MPH program.
This option does not affect the match position in the PLFSOM, or any scholarships that may be offered for studies leading only to the M.D. Applicants are encouraged to apply in the spring before medical school in order to begin the M.D./M.P.H. participation in the summer before medical school. Applications for admissions to the M.P.H. program are made in the spring to begin in summer or fall. Please visit our M.D./M.P.H. program page for more information.
