Q: Is the GGHSON accredited?

A: Yes. The Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso – Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing (GGHSON) is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

 

Admission FAQs

Q: What makes a competitive applicant for the Post-Baccalaureate Nursing Leadership Certificate?

A: Successful applicants typically:

  • Demonstrate academic excellence and readiness for graduate coursework.
  • Can clearly articulate their role and career aspirations.
  • Show an understanding of nursing leadership responsibilities and key issues in the field.
  • Exhibit leadership potential through scholarship, service, or education.

Q: Is there an expiration on previous coursework?

A: No. However, foundational science and nursing courses are essential to success in the program. If your coursework was completed more than five years ago, ensure you review relevant material.

Q: Are prerequisite courses required?

A: Yes. Applicants must complete a three-semester-credit-hour or four-quarter-credit-hour statistics course with a grade of B or better from an accredited institution.

  • Waiver: This requirement is waived for certificate program applicants.
  • M.S.N. Degree: If you later pursue an M.S.N. degree, the statistics prerequisite must be fulfilled.

Q: Can I take the prerequisite course at a community college or online?

A: Yes, the course can be completed at any regionally accredited college, university, or community college.

Q: Must I complete the prerequisite course before applying?

A: No, but you must provide proof of completion before starting coursework for the M.S.N. degree.

Q: If I do not have a Bachelor’s in Nursing (B.S.N.), may I still apply?

A: Please contact the GGHSON Office of Student Affairs for further guidance.

Q: Is the GRE required?

A: No, the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required at this time.

Program-specific FAQs

Q: Is full-time study available?

A: No. The Post-Baccalaureate Nursing Leadership Certificate program is designed as a part-time program (six academic credit hours per semester) in an online format.

Q: Will I need to come to campus?

A: No, all courses are fully online. However, faculty are available to provide support and guidance.

Q: Will I be required to enroll in courses over the summer session?

A: Yes. Coursework is continuous, including summer sessions.
