Pathology Residency Program

Message from the Directors

Welcome to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Pathology Residency Program on our main campus, co-located with our University Medical Center of El Paso Level 1 trauma center, El Paso Children’s Hospital, Medical Examiner’s Office, and TTUHSC El Paso schools (medical, dental, nursing, and graduate schools).

Our robust faculty not only includes combined AP and CP board-certified pathologists, but also includes those with boards and/or specialization in combinations of all pathology specialties (see list in FAQ section).

The program is designed so that pathology residents will become proficient in performing procedures and writing diagnostic reports for cytology analysis, bone marrow aspirations, fine-needle aspirations, autopsy services, and areas in clinical pathology.  Furthermore, there are numerous research and publication opportunities through our high-volumes of AP and CP case work as well as through specific research interests within our department and institution.

While a main program goal is to prepare residents for success in any clinical and/or academic pathology setting, we are also dedicated to preparing residents for successes in follow-on fellowship training.

With almost 1 million residents, El Paso has been named four times as an All-America City winner and consistently named as one of the Top 10 safest cities in America.

Because we are located near the borders of Juárez, Mexico, and Las Cruces, New Mexico, our metropolis population of 2.5 million affords a valuable and broad clinical exposure, as well as a rich culture.

Please consider our program and pathology family among the strongest for your combined AP and CP residency training.
