Shuttle Training
Concern about the stability and handling of 15-passenger vans has resulted in the State of Texas and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso to enact mandatory training to provide van safety awareness training as a prerequisite to approving drivers.
As mandated by HSCEP OP 63.01, there are additional qualifications for drivers of 15-passenger vans. All drivers must have successfully completed a driver-training course offered by TTUHSC Safety Services. All drivers must complete a driver approval request before attending a session.
Additional qualifications, per HSCEP OP 63.03 - Attachment A, for drivers of vans equipped for 15 passengers or extended cargo:
- Must be at least 20 years of age and have held a valid license for at least two years;
- Must successfully complete the university driver training course for this
type van; - Must attend retraining annually; and
- Must not have more than one moving violation in the last 18 months.
The Vehicle Fleet Management Plan is managed by TTUHSC Office of Vehicle Fleet Management in the department of General Services.
