A word from Program Leadership:

Thank you for considering our Psychiatry Residency Program. This partnership is as unique as El Paso itself — a "bridge" linking a state institution and a private hospital, united in a shared mission to advance mental health care.

While our program is still young, we are proud to have graduated our inaugural class in 2025 — a milestone that reflects both our rapid growth and our strong foundation. We collaborate closely with our sister residency program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, allowing you to benefit from a broad array of resources and expertise.

As a resident in our program, you will provide mental health services to an exceptionally diverse patient population, including individuals from across the socioeconomic spectrum and from our vibrant U.S.–Mexico border community. Our patients range from those with serious, persistent mental illness to those who are highly functional, and include the privately insured, underinsured, and uninsured.

Throughout your training, you will gain firsthand insight into the various sectors of the U.S. mental health care system — community, governmental, and private — and understand how these systems shape patient care and outcomes. This breadth of exposure will prepare you to practice in a wide variety of clinical settings.
El Paso offers a wonderful quality of life: abundant sunshine, welcoming people, rich culture, and excellent outdoor activities — all with an affordable cost of living. And if you love variety, you'll be happy to know we are just two hours away from skiing in beautiful Ruidoso, New Mexico!

At the heart of our program is a culture of wellness, mutual respect, and true teamwork. We believe that the best learning and patient care happen in an environment where every individual feels valued and supported — as both a clinician and a person. We strive to foster a community where residents take care of themselves, take care of each other, and grow together in service of the patients and communities we serve. If you value collaboration, kindness, and a spirit of shared purpose, you will find a welcoming home here.

Thank you again for considering our program at this exciting phase of your professional journey. We are passionate about this endeavor and confident you will be too.

Welcome to El Paso Strong!
