Title V Grant: The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program

Introduction:

The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program provides grants to assist HSIs to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Hispanic students. These grants also enable HSIs to expand and enhance their academic offerings, program quality and institutional stability.

Description:

Puentes Hacia El Exito-Bridges Toward Success is the name of the grant that Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) received in the fall of 2020. The Title V grant is a five-year grant and will continue until 2025. TTUHSC El Paso is the first Health-Related Institution (HRI) on the U.S. border that has qualified as a Title V Hispanic-Serving Institution.   The university attracts a significant number of undergraduate and graduate Hispanic students.  See:  Fact Book 2020 (ttuhsc.edu)

EnfRNte originated in 2020 by a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) grant from the U.S. Department of Education, and was created to be a one-stop guide to educate, promote, and recruit the nurses of tomorrow. The program aims to meet the shortage of nurses in the El Paso, West Texas, and Southern New Mexico areas, including bringing nursing professionals to underserved and underrepresented communities.
