Become a Community Faculty Member at TTUHSC El Paso

Community-based instruction is a founding principle for all of our Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso students, as it provides real-world opportunities for observing and following patients over time while refining history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis and patient management skills

The Office for Outreach and Community Engagement is responsible for the recruitment of community physicians and other medical professionals to assist with educating students enrolled in Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso programs. It also serves as the starting point by determining educational needs and channeling invited candidates to the Office of Faculty Affairs, which oversees the appointment process.

Community Physicians/Preceptors have the option of accepting first-year, second-year, third-year and/or fourth-year medical students into their practice during various blocks of the medical education program throughout the year. Community faculty may also serve by teaching residents, providing patient care at TTUHSC El Paso, conducting research and interviewing medical school candidates.
