Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy services are available for individuals experiencing life stressors, trauma symptoms, depression, anxiety, interpersonal problems, difficulty adjusting to health concerns, and other problems. Psychotherapy is provided by licensed psychologists, as well as psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows with advanced training. Therapists use a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and other evidence-based psychotherapies. The Psychology division has collaborated with various departments within TTUHSCEP, University Medical Center, and El Paso Psychiatric Center to provide wellness sessions for staff, faculty, and trainees. The topics of these sessions range from incorporating mindfulness and managing stress to coping with grief. 
Dr. Longhurst is a behavioral health specialist who works in collaboration with residents and faculty at the Family and Community Medicine Kenworthy Clinic to address patients’ physical health problems and behavioral health needs during their primary care visits.

Employee, Resident, and Student Assistance Program

TTUHSC El Paso recognizes that personal problems can have a direct and adverse impact on an individual's job performance and education. The Department of Psychiatry provides confidential, on-site counseling services to employees, residents, students, and immediate family members living in their households. These services are intended to help with a variety of personal issues including relational, family, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral concerns.

In addition to confidential counseling services, the student assistance program also offers psychiatric consultation and treatment to TTUHSC El Paso students and their immediate family members.
