Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: During my interview, although it was online because of the pandemic, the faculty
and residents projected a sense of a caring, friendly and strong camaraderie between
each other. Once starting here I truly witness it first hand and was truly impressed
about how much they care about our well-being. I truly enjoy training in El Paso because
of the diversity of cases we see on a daily basis. The last thing that put the cherry
on top of choosing this program was their impressive pass rates for the board and
very successful matching rate.
Favorite things about El Paso: The sunsets in El Paso are phenomenal.
Hobbies/Interests: Baking, Reading Mystery/Thriller novels, Going to the movies, playing board games
with my fellow residents

Something unique or interesting about yourself: A big fan of the Scream franchise! See the movies every year during Halloween season.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: The people! I had the opportunity to meet with a few of the residents and attendings
before I applied and It seemed like an inviting and supportive environment. Now that
I’m a resident here, I can definitely say that it is true.
Favorite things about El Paso: The sun, people, and low cost of living

Something unique or interesting about myself: I’m still waiting for someone to beat me in Friends (TV show) trivia. I welcome the

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I really liked the program because of a really good curriculum and amazing research
opportunities that are available here. Also, the interview day experience had a big
influence on me for choosing the TTUHSC El Paso Internal Medicine Residency program.
Favorite things about El Paso: I am in love with the beautiful mountain views and the authentic Mexican food here.
Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy playing and watching soccer. Also, I love traveling to new places and exploring
different cultures.
Plans after residency: Pursuing a fellowship.
Something unique or interesting about myself: I completed a motorbike trip with my friends from the East coast to the West coast.

Why I chose to come TTUHSC El Paso for residency: First and foremost: Good, sincere interactions during the interview; the university
program! Advanced care center in a border city—solid, broad clinical exposure, good
fellowship placements! And also free meals :)
Favorite things about El Paso: Very nice people, Mexican cuisine, outstanding mountains! (Love it), year-long sunny
weather (nice!).
Hobbies/Interests: Like to do long car trips (>thousand miles). Interested in programming these days.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: TTUHSC El Paso stood out to me during my interview season for its vision, diversity
and patient population. Although the interviews were virtual, I instantly resonated
with the faculty, staff and residents. The camaraderie among residents was evident.
The program seemed very supportive to new ideas and placed its resident’s educational
and personal wellness as its top priorities. This made it a perfect choice for me.
Favorite things about El Paso: El Paso is a unique border city with a blend of rich culture from the 4 states, scenic
mountains, amazing weather all year long topped with great food at a very affordable
cost of living!
Hobbies/Interests: Designing and art define me. I am also an adrenal junkie and you can count me in
for any adventure activity!
Plans after residency: Academically, I plan to pursue a fellowship. I would also love to travel and explore
different cultures across the world!
Something unique or interesting about myself: I love challenging myself with various types of adventure sports, mind games, puzzles
(sudoku, crosswords, jigsaw etc.). Of note, the largest jigsaw puzzle I have ever
solved was 5000 pieces!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, and could not imagine a better place to
train in. The program has strong academic rigor, friendly faculty and staff, exposure
to diverse pathology due to its geographic location on the border, great sense of
community within the hospital, resources to match into fellowship successfully and
located in a vibrant city with plenty of things to do.
Favorite thing about El Paso: The stunning sunsets, incredible Mexican food and the deeply rooted sense of community
inside and outside of the hospital.
Hobbies/interest: Yoga, running, pottery, cooking and playing with my French bulldog.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I firmly believe that the people you surround yourself with are what makes a place
feel like home, and the faculty/residents I have interacted with have been very kind
and helpful from day one. I also appreciate the program's scheduling, emphasis on
teamwork and wellness.
Favorite things about El Paso: The people, cultural diversity, safety and the weather (on most days).
Hobbies/Interests: Working out for sure. Mostly because I love eating.
Plans after residency: Possibly embark on fellowship training; also working toward a future that will allow
for impromptu traveling.
Something unique or interesting about myself: I learned the basics of Korean and would love to master the language. I'm also big
on putting together a to-do list.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: Going into my interview, I knew that TTUHSC El Paso would offer excellent university-caliber
training on top of opportunities to learn from unique pathologies given the proximity
to the United States-Mexico border. But what made TTUHSC El Paso really stand out
was the cordiality I experienced during my interview day. Even in a virtual format,
the faculty, staff and residents were able to exude warmth and congeniality. From
the program director’s opening remarks to the resident Q&A, I felt a sense of community
among both the faculty and the current residents that was encouraging and uplifting.
Favorite things about El Paso: The diversity and culture, food and people. As an outdoors enthusiast, I also love
how close we are to mountains and national parks!
Hobbies/Interests: I’m an avid sports fan, particularly of my hometown teams (Go Lakers and Dodgers!).
Staying active is a must! I’ll almost never refuse the chance to play pick-up basketball.
I also love swimming, surfing, snowboarding, hiking, camping and backpacking. But
my newest obsession is my Peloton.
Plans after residency: Pursue a fellowship.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: After my first year of medical school, I went on a road trip that involved eight
states (nine if you count a minor detour into British Columbia), five days of backpacking,
and over 100 miles of hiking.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I didn't have any regional ties with El Paso but, now that I have been living here,
I'm starting to like the life that comes with living in a quiet city. I also love
the sun and the heat. When it comes down to why I chose TTUHSC El Paso for residency,
I chose it because it has a very diverse patient population and the working environment
is so good. The program really does look out for you and cares about your future and
what you want for yourself.
Favorite things about El Paso: The food, the mountains and the sunsets. People are so nice and warm here. Downtown
El Paso is also another favorite of mine.
Hobbies/Interests: Dancing, cooking, exploring the city, binging on my favorite series and doing some
outdoorsy stuff. Some of my interests include astrophysics, spirituality, and medicine,
of course!
Plans after residency: Start working as a physician.
Something unique or interesting about myself: I'm actually Australian.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: TTUHSC El Paso offers a strong academic curriculum with broad clinical exposure on
national and international population, not to mention the excellent board pass rate
and fellowship placements. The program has a strong feeling of camaraderie and teamwork
with a very good balance between academics and wellness.
Favorite things about El Paso: The people and the diverse cultural diversity in the area. Not to mention all those
sunny days per year.
Hobbies/Interests: Definitely weight lifting and outdoor activities.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: The program’s structured curriculum, intuitive mentors/attending physicians, and
the diverse pathologies in the region is definitely the best highlights of training
for residency here. This is reflected by the program’s excellent board pass rates
and fellowship placements.
Favorite things about El Paso: Definitely the sunny weather and the mountains! The people, the low cost of living
(You spend less but get more. Who doesn’t want that?). Everyone is friendly and approachable.
The patients are some of the nicest and most grateful people you will ever meet.
Hobbies/Interests: Playing soccer, tennis. Going on long road trips.

Something unique or interesting about yourself: I’ve dislocated my right shoulder twice while playing tennis. Had to pop it back
in both times (Not the most pleasant experience)

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I chose this institute because on my interview day (even though it was virtual),
I had a feeling of belonging here. Everyone was super approachable, kind, and tried
to make you comfortable. Apart from that, it is a university program with lots of
research and fellowship opportunities that makes this institute ideal for any resident
in the world. I am so glad to be part of the TTUHSC El Paso family, where they don't
only care about your professional growth as a physician, but also your well-being
as a resident. We have a big sibling, a research sibling, and mentors to guide you
and make your intern year a smooth ride. The pathology diversity in the El Paso population,
along with attendings and mentors’ guidance, makes your clinical foundation and practice
outstanding. The 6+2 schedule is the cherry on top. It has only been a few months
in this program, but honestly, I would not want to be anywhere else.
Favorite things about El Paso: The best thing about El Paso is the people. People here are super nice and kind.
I always wanted to live in a town with mountains, and here I go for the next three
years with beautiful mountains around me. And how could you say no to 365 sunny days
per year :) .
Hobbies/Interests: I love traveling, dancing, listening to music (Bollywood), and spending quality time
with my family.
Plans after residency: I am interested in doing a fellowship, but also at some level interested in hospital
medicine, so I would like to let my interest take shape as I go further in my journey.
Something unique or interesting about myself: I can jump rope 150 times in one minute.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso because I knew it would prepare me to become the
well-rounded, efficient, and multi-skilled physician I always wanted to be.
Favorite things about El Paso: My favorite things about El Paso are the people. Everywhere I go they are so nice
and polite, and I have never experienced such hospitality in a community such as in
this one.
Hobbies/Interests: I really enjoy investing and learning about blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.
I can talk about it all day! I also enjoy going to the gym and playing with my two
dogs Lucky and Lola.
Plans after residency: After residency I plan to start a hospitalist job or a hybrid hospitalist/outpatient
clinic job in an underserved community, preferably El Paso.
Something unique or interesting about myself: I love to do bar gymnastics!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: Before my interview, I knew that TTUHSC El Paso is an excellent training program
with outstanding resources to nourish my career and help me achieve my goals. I became
more certain after my interview with the residents, they were vocal about enjoying
the program from education and mentorship to the unwavering support of the program
leadership.
Favorite things about El Paso: The fantastic mountain scenery that you can see anywhere in the city, the people
who are welcoming, kind, and friendly, the delicious food and the endless outdoor
activities.
Hobbies/Interests: Reading books, shopping, watching movies and TV shows and learning new languages.
Plans after residency: Gastroenterology fellowship
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I love reading to a degree that I can finish a 700-page book in a day.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I was incredibly impressed with TTUHSC El Paso on interview day. The deciding factor,
which still sticks with me today, was what a 3rd year resident told me on interview
day. He told me confidently that at the end of your 3 years at TTUHSC El Paso, you
will be a competent and capable physician ready for anything.
Favorite things about El Paso: Coming from Arizona, I really love the desert climate. The city is uniquely situated
north of Ciudad Juárez and south of the Franklin Mountains. The beautiful views, amazing
food, and diverse culture make El Paso a great place to live.
Hobbies/Interests: Hiking, programming, writing, and playing guitar are a few of my hobbies. I like
to leave no stone unturned and am up for anything!
Plans after residency: I would like to pursue a fellowship in cardiology.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I have published two iOS applications on the Apple App Store!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: Coming from Mexico, El Paso was a place where I could find myself at home and close
to my family. TTUHSC El Paso is also a strong academic program with good research
output which is something I was looking for in a program as I am preparing to apply
for a competitive fellowship. I was lucky to meet residents during international conferences
so seeing the quality of their projects also spoke highly of the program. You may
also hear this but the low cost of living never hurt anybody right?
Favorite things about El Paso: Definitely the sunset view over the mountains that I have by the end of my day, the
many trails around El Paso, and the many places around the city where you can go over
a weekend, you will be surprised to know there is plenty stuff to do, from going to
ski areas to forest camping zones.
Hobbies/Interests: Anything that is outdoors you can count on me!.
Plans after residency: Cardiology fellowship or Masters in Sciences/Biostatistics
Something unique or interesting about yourself: Currently working on getting my skydiving license so ask me in a year or two if I
got it.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: My first visit to the campus, right after my interview, was all what I needed to
make my decision of coming here. My family loved it also. Honestly there’s something
here that is not easy to be put into words.
Favorite things about El Paso: I enjoy the social support systems. The people are very accommodating.
Hobbies/Interests: Watching Soccer especially when FC Barcelona is playing. Volunteering. Cookouts
Plans after residency: I am currently exploring between hem/onc and cardiology fellowship.
Something unique or interesting about myself: Growing up, some of my friends actually believed I would become a chef due to my
exceptional cooking skills. They weren’t wrong though, because my kids love my cooking
more than their mom's cooking.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: TTUHSC El Paso provided me with everything that I was looking for in a residency.
The curriculum is very educational and hands-on, the program has a great fellowship
match, but most importantly, a true sense of community and support. During the interview,
I could tell the residents were happy; also, everyone was kind, open and welcoming.
I couldn't ask for a better program or location for my residency training.
Favorite things about El Paso: I love outdoor activities! El Paso is a great area for hiking and excellent for bouldering
and rock climbing! There are several fantastic indoor climbing gyms and outdoor places!
Hueco Tanks, one of the best areas in the world for bouldering, is just a 40-minute
drive from El Paso! I couldn't even dream of being so close to this climbing paradise!
Ruidoso, a beautiful mountain town excellent for hiking, skiing and kayaking, is just
a two-hour drive from El Paso. Finally, one of the most magical experiences I ever
had is hiking the White Sands dunes under the full moon's glow!
Hobbies/Interests: Rock climbing and bouldering, hiking, skiing, making herbarium specimens, and painting.

Something unique or interesting about yourself: I had never driven a car until I came to El Paso!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: Being raised in Texas, I knew I wanted to train and stay here. I chose to come to
El Paso because I love all the city has to offer as well the broad clinical exposure
available here.
Favorite things about El Paso: The 360 view of the mountains and all the hiking trails here!
Hobbies/Interests: I love to swim, dance, and travel.
Plans after residency: I’m interested in fellowship afterwards.

career goals. And during my interview, the residents were so frank about enjoying
the program, the education, mentorship, and the firm support they receive from the
leadership team.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I was born and raised in El Paso, TX and have lived here my whole life. I chose to
come to TTUHSC El Paso because it has always been my goal to serve my community as
a physician. While I was growing up I experienced what it was like living in a city
with a shortage of physicians and specialists and several family members often had
to travel out of town to receive the medical care they needed. I hope to be part of
the solution in closing that gap in my hometown.
Favorite things about El Paso: I love the mountains in the area, and the range of activities to do outdoors. I also
enjoy the events the city offers year-round like Cool Canyon Nights and Alfresco Friday's,
for example.
Hobbies/Interests: On my free time I enjoy hiking, running, and spending time with my 8 month-old son.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: An interesting fact about myself is I attended Alicia R. Chacon international school
for my elementary schooling and when I was 11 years old I was an exchange student
in Germany for a couple weeks

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I was looking for a program that was very well connected with the community that
it services. A program that genuinely cares for it's patients. That's exactly what
I felt, TTUHSC El Paso represents.
Favorite things about El Paso: I love that it's bright and sunny out here. People here are super nice.
Hobbies/Interests: I am a classical kuchipudi dancer. Cooking and baking is second nature to me. I look
for excuses to bake cookies, brownies, cakes and everything sweet.
Plans after residency: I look forward to doing a cardiology fellowship.
Something unique or interesting about myself: I am a twin. I also had 100% attendance at school for 5 years in a row.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: Excellent training and exposure at the only academic county hospital within a 280-mile
radius. Kind and grateful patient population in the Borderplex community of El Paso.
Most importantly, incredible residents from diverse backgrounds who truly made me
feel welcome and part of the team right away.
Favorite things about El Paso: Sun city with 302 days of sunshine in a year, warm and friendly people, great hikes
and affordable living

Something unique or interesting about yourself: I wanted to be an astronaut my whole life until I chanced upon medicine. Loved every
moment since that fateful meeting!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I think the El Paso-Juarez area is a unique place to learn Internal Medicine due
to its geographic location and patient population. TTUHSC gives us this unique opportunity.
Favorite things about El Paso: It's people, they are friendly and always show a smile for you. And the food, it's
delicious.
Hobbies/Interests: When I have free time, I like to watch movies and series, practice and play some
music, and play video games once in a while. I also enjoy going out and hiking.
Plans after residency: Probably I will pursue a fellowship in Cardiology if possible. Still, I enjoy Internal
Medicine as a whole so It wouldn't surprise me if I decide to practice as an Internist
after this.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I used to take classes for classical music, and thanks to that it opened my musical
taste and now I Like to listen to a wide variety of music.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: TTUHSC El Paso’s internal medicine program has everything that I am looking for in
a program: high-quality education, well-designed curriculum, and wide range of research
opportunities.
Favorite things about El Paso: My favorite things about El Paso are clear blue skies, breathtaking sunsets, and
amiable people.
Hobbies/Interests: My hobbies and interests are reading books and spending time with my family and friends.
Plans after residency: I want to do a fellowship in cardiology (hopefully interventional).
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I did a water fast for seven days. My next goal is to make it 10 days.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: Ciudad Juárez/El Paso are my hometowns, and TTUHSC El Paso offered me the opportunity to treat my community. TTUHSC El Paso offered me an excellent well-rounded training opportunity regardless of where my career path takes me. The residents and faculty have been very approachable, helpful, and great to help you become better every day.
Favorite things about El Paso: My family. Not to mention the nicest people are here, the awesome food, having Mexico within minutes, and its affordability.
Hobbies/Interests: Many, but mainly playing and watching sports. Soccer, football (I am a Tom Brady fanboy), basketball (Miami Heat), baseball (Red Sox/Dodgers!), and going out with my family and friends.
Plans after residency: I would like to have an internal medicine clinic and work hybrid clinic/inpatient.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I studied in the Netherlands for my minor in finance. And of course, I was going to be a pro soccer player, but my darn knees.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: The faculty members, senior residents, and program coordinators were very amiable,
kind, and attentive to every question during interviews, which left me with a great
impression and experience. This program provides a good balance of work, wellness
and education, as well as research opportunities for residents. Thus, I was encouraged
to join TTUHSC El Paso for residency.
Favorite things about El Paso: Affordability, delicious food, and friendly people.

care to a diverse and multicultural population. I was also drawn by the program’s
strong clinical training and support for research. I knew I would receive excellent
and well-rounded training here.
Favorite things about El Paso: El Paso is a vibrant city, and the climate is similar to my home country, the Philippines.
The people are very friendly, and there are a lot of opportunities for hiking, biking,
camping, and other outdoor activities, which I love.
Hobbies/interests: I love the outdoors, and in my free time, I go hiking, camping, and freediving.
Plans after residency: After residency, I plan to pursue a cardiology fellowship or become a hospitalist.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I just started training for my first 70.3 Ironman!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: TTUHSC El Paso was my top choice for residency because it felt like a perfect fit
to me. The welcoming environment, the safety of the city, and residents that looked
genuinely happy made it my top choice. Also, the location near the Mexican border
provides a diverse patient population to learn from.
Favorite things about El Paso: I really liked how everyone I meet in El Paso is very kind. While I haven't had the
opportunity to explore the city well yet, I’m really excited to discover the wonderful
places that I have been told about.

than adequate medical attention due to language barriers. So, I chose a place where
I could make a difference for them; that is why TTUHSC El Paso was my No. 1 choice
for residency.
Favorite things about El Paso: The low cost of living relative to other places, a well-connected airport, and the
proximity to Mexico.
Hobbies/interests: I love watching movies and going to the movie theater.
Plans after residency: Undecided between a career as a hospitalist or a fellowship in rheumatology (super
different, I know!), my time during the residency will decide for me.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I’m an aviation geek and will get my private pilot license after residency.

helps with the growth and well-being of its residents.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: TTUHSC El Paso was my top choice for plenty of reasons. Firstly, I really liked that
it was an academic program with fellowships which aligns with my future interests
to pursue a fellowship in gastroenterology. Secondly, everyone was very warm and supportive
during my interview. Thirdly, the exposure to diverse patient pathology attracted
me to El Paso as it's a border town.
Favorite things about El Paso: I haven't had chance to explore a lot but the sunsets in El Paso are beautiful. Also,
everyone I have met in the city is super friendly and helpful. It has a quaint small
city vibe which I am personally very fond of because it reminds me of Mangalore (the
city of my medical school, KMC).
Hobbies/interests: I love outdoorsy activities like trekking and camping. Dancing, gymming or yoga help
me destress after a long day. I like to read fictional thrillers and watch sitcoms
like The Office, Modern Family and Friends for entertainment.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: TTUHSC El Paso had everything I was looking for in a residency program, an excellent
culture of support, ample research opportunities, and mentorship for my future goals.
On the day of my interview, I felt a strong sense of belonging to the place and people.
I believed I would thrive at this place and become the doctor I aspire to be.
Favorite things about El Paso: When I first arrived in El Paso, it pleasantly surprised me. It was beautiful and
picturesque, and the people were friendly and warm. The sunny days remind me of my
hometown in India, and I see myself rapidly falling in love with El Paso.
Hobbies/interests: I love baking and swimming. I also enjoy watching movies and reading books. My favorite
movie is The Blind Side, and my favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
Plans after residency: I am interested in pursuing a GI fellowship after residency.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: There isn’t a horror movie in English that I haven’t seen. If you want a good horror
movie suggestion, who you gonna call?

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: After experiencing my interview day at TTUHSC El Paso, I couldn’t help but feel an
overwhelming desire to become a part of their family. The faculty, senior residents,
and program coordinators left a lasting impression on me with their kindness, approachability,
and evident enthusiasm for their work. I was particularly drawn to this program because
of its commitment to providing exceptional education, mentorship, and exposure. Additionally,
my passion for promoting equity in healthcare aligns perfectly with TTUHSC El Paso’s
focus on serving underserved and uninsured populations. The people I have encountered
so far within this program have become my personal favorites, and their genuine dedication
has solidified my conviction that this is the ideal choice for me.
Favorite things about El Paso: The mountains, sunsets, authentic Mexican food and warm and friendly people.
Hobbies/interests: I find great joy in hiking and I am excited about exploring the hiking trails and
treks available in El Paso. Additionally, I have recently picked up crochet as a hobby,
and I am eagerly looking forward to creating delightful little crochet projects. Another
passion of mine is indulging in TV shows and films, while treating my friends to homemade
masala chai.
Plans after residency: I am incredibly enthusiastic about all things related to medicine, making it difficult
for me to choose my next path. But I am particularly captivated by the fields of cardiology,
hematology-oncology, and infectious disease.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I am an avid hiker and have conquered two Himalayan summits.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: The program has a friendly environment and is focused on teaching their residents.
It was evident from my interview day that the faculty and staff are very supportive
and approachable. This kind of positive environment enables residents to learn and
grow both professionally and personally. There is vast exposure to a variety of cases
in internal medicine and ample research opportunities.
Favorite things about El Paso: I like Mexican food, scenic Franklin mountains, the sunset and the friendly folk.
It a city with its own indigenous values and wide cultural diversity.
Hobbies/interests: I am classical kuchipudi dancer since the age of 5 years. I like dancing and choreographing.
Apart from that, I also like travelling. I like keeping up with the latest medical
updates.
Plans after residency: I love internal medicine! I am yet to explore my options but leaning towards interventional
subspecialties.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I can speak four languages (English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil), and I am a workaholic.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: The main reason why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso was the people I met during
the interview and the resident meet and greet. Even though it was a virtual meeting,
I could sense an environment of support and camaraderie among the residents. It felt
like the perfect place to train, achieve my goals, and make friends, knowing I would
be supported in every aspect.
Favorite things about El Paso: I haven't had a chance to explore the city much, but based on what I have heard and
seen, I am looking forward to trying out different Mexican restaurants and hiking
trails. Even though we arrived during the hottest week of the year, the weather felt
perfect to me!
Hobbies/interests: I love to watch and play tennis. Being a big board games enthusiast, I would be down
for a game anytime, any day (Disclaimer- I will get super competitive). I also enjoy
reading crime fiction.
Plans after residency: I am going to explore my options in residency but am inclined towards pursuing a
Heme/Onc fellowship.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I have a collection of newspaper articles from my favorite column in the Times dating
back to 2010

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I chose TTUHSC El Paso as this program offers a great opportunity to train with a
unique and diverse population of patients in the border with Mexico. Moreover, the
program stands out by helping you build critical skills in research and social medicine
that are an important part of your professional development.
Favorite things about El Paso: Running outside to see the sunset at the mountains, having authentic Mexican food
nearby and having a trip in the downtown tramways.
Hobbies/interests: I am a coffee fan; I have tried most of the existing methods to brew a cup of coffee.
I also like to draw and make some art graphic designs or watercolor portraits.
Plans after residency: I will pursue a fellowship in Endocrinology or Cardiology. I am also interested to
pursue a postgraduate program in medical education.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I wrote a small poems book in Spanish back in 2015.

a couple of hours before departure.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: TTUHSC El Paso caters to a diverse blend of populations from both developing and developed
nations, providing me an unparalleled clinical exposure and it works great for my
clinical curiosity. Vibe during the interview and resident 'Meet and Greet' made me
confident about the welcoming atmosphere. I believed joining here would fulfill my
long-standing aspiration to be part of an impactful research work and a strong academic
community.
Favorite things about El Paso: I loved the mountain views, authentic Mexican cuisine, warm weather and skydiving.
Riding an ATV is next in my bucket list!
Hobbies/interests: I love creating Mandala art, singing along to karaoke songs and recording them and
binge-watching Korean dramas.
Plans after residency: Pursuing a fellowship is a definite course of action to me.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I managed to single-handedly eat biryani meant for 5 people in an hour, as part of
a challenge and that was after finishing the starters. Waiters in the restaurant left
shocked to see that!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: The TTUHSC El Paso Internal Medicine Residency Program offers a diverse patient population,
including a large Hispanic population, which provides a unique opportunity for residents
to gain experience in cultural competency. The program is affiliated with the University
Medical Center of El Paso, which is a Level 1 trauma center and the only academic
medical center in the region providing residents with exposure to a wide range of
medical conditions. It has a strong didactic curriculum, including weekly grand rounds,
journal clubs, and board review sessions providing residents with the best possible
education.
Favorite things about El Paso: Warm weather, the delicious and authentic Mexican food, the friendly people, and
the stunning natural landscapes.
Hobbies/interests: Traveling, reading books.
Plans after residency: I would like to pursue fellowship in Cardiology (if possible, Interventional Cardiology).
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I get myself out of a funk by working towards a new goal, investing in hobbies, and
getting a good workout.

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I chose TTUHSC El Paso for residency because of the multitude of opportunities for
both fellowship and career advancement as well as the outstanding education offered.
Favorite things about El Paso: My favorite thing about El Paso is the dry heat, I'm from Houston and all too used
to humidity so it's refreshing to be able to step outside during the summer and not
be drenched in sweat!
Hobbies/interests: My main hobbies are fishing and lifting weights! I also love watching NFL and college
football and am a huge Houston Texans and University of Houston Cougars fan too!
Plans after residency: I plan on pursuing a pulm/crit care fellowship.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: My parents were 45 and 43 when I was born!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I had a wonderful experience being interviewed at TTUHSC El Paso which made it my
top choice for internal medicine residency. Now that I’m here ,I can corroborate that
not only does the program train its residents well but is also supportive and looks
out for their overall well-being. The camaraderie within TTUHSC El Paso and the 6+2
scheduling block with emphasis on patient care and research align with my career goal
and work ethos. In my opinion, it is an ideal program for training in internal medicine.
Favorite things about El Paso: The people are so welcoming and just genuinely nice, made me feel right at home!
Hobbies/ interests: I have been playing volleyball for over a decade. I also enjoy playing other sports
such as soccer, badminton and even chess!

Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I chose El Paso because I was genuinely impressed by my interviewers and the program
director. El Paso is also my original home and it’s an absolute dream come true to
be able to come back and serve my community.
Favorite things about El Paso: The close-knit community, fantastic Mexican food on both sides of the border, safe
city, plenty of outdoor activities, close to a couple lakes and the Lincoln national
forest.
Hobbies/interests: Hiking, Mountain biking, Camping, Off-roading, boating.
Plans after residency: Open a local clinic serving the Borderland community.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I hiked Angels landing in Zion Utah at night.

PGY1 - Preliminary
Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: I attended medical school at the Foster School of Medicine, and I was impressed by
the unique patient diversity and the professionalism and educational expertise of
the neurology department.
Favorite things about El Paso: The people in this city are so welcoming and kind, lack of humidity, and many great
travel destinations are close by!
Hobbies/interests: Creative writing, playing piano

Something unique or interesting about yourself: Played soccer for 15 years and used to officiate games.

PGY1 - Preliminary
Why I chose to come to TTUHSC El Paso for residency: The Southwest and U.S.-Mexico border region became my new home since attending medical
school in nearby Las Cruces, New Mexico. It is a privilege to continue my residency
training as a physician serving familiar communities at the border and helping meet
the healthcare needs of the Paso del Norte region.
Favorite things about El Paso: To me, El Paso is a hidden gem with its diverse mix of U.S. and Mexican culture,
food, art, and history. Whenever I travel to other parts of the U.S., I share my love
for this is bicultural city with its year-round sunshine and scenic desert landscapes
and mountains.
Hobbies/interests: I enjoy outdoors and physical activities that keep both my mind and body active and
healthy, particularly going on hikes and training for mud runs and obstacle races
(i.e., the Spartan Race). I also enjoy learning new languages, including being fully
bilingual with Spanish as my first language and having basic competency in French,
Haitian Kreyol, Portuguese, and Malawian Chichewa.
Plans after residency: After my Neurology residency, I plan on completing a fellowship in either neurorehabilitation
or neuroimmunology sub-specialties and continue practicing medicine in service of
border populations of the Paso del Norte region.
Something unique or interesting about yourself: I have lived in San Salvador, New York City, Houston, Southern New Mexico (Las Cruces,
Lovington and Roswell), and now, El Paso. I had temporary professional opportunities
for public health, social medicine and clinical work in Malawi and Haiti.
