While I recognize that a virtual ceremony cannot replace a traditional ceremony, I
have worked closely with leadership across our campus to ensure that graduates are
still given a moment that honors the hard work and achievements that have come from
your time at TTUHSC El Paso. As May approaches, I would like to provide an update
and some information on what you can expect from your school’s ceremony.
Below is the schedule for each school’s ceremony:

The Foster School of Medicine’s ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May
22.

The Hunt School of Nursing’s ceremony will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9..

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences’ ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on
Saturday, May 9.
The virtual ceremony will follow our traditional ceremony program, with remarks from
myself and a keynote speaker, and/or your class representative and the conferral of
degrees. Because we cannot physically hand out diplomas, our friends at KVIA ABC-7
– main co-anchors Erik Elken and Stephanie Valle, and chief meteorologist “Doppler”
Dave Speelman —have offered to read student names during each school’s ceremony. As
each student’s name is read, a slide will appear with each graduate’s photo, hometown,
resident match/post-graduate plan.
Following each ceremony, the broadcasts will be made available for all to view and
revisit on our Youtube page. If you would like to share photos of yourself dressed in regalia, viewing the
live ceremony or celebrating at home, be sure to tag us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook @ttuhscep using hashtags #Fostergrad2020, #Huntgrad2020, #GSBSgrad2020 and #ttuhscepproud.
Loved ones who wish to send a special message to their graduates, and students who
wish to share their favorite memories from their time at TTUHSC El Paso, can send
short video clips to the Office of Institutional Advancement at news.ep@ttuhsc.edu by Monday, May 11. The video clips will be used to create a montage, which will be
posted on our university’s social media channels.
The Office of Institutional Advancement will also facilitate on-campus photo sessions
for those students who wish to have their photo taken while dressed in full regalia.
All social distancing protocols will be followed and photos will be taken on campus.
A link to a Google Doc sign-up sheet will be sent from your respective school student
affairs representative. Students can expect to receive a link to download and print
their photos two weeks after commencement ceremonies.
Additionally, each student will still receive their diploma in the mail as regularly
scheduled, approximately one week following commencement ceremonies. Students will
also receive two physical copies of their school’s commencement program two weeks
after each ceremony. If your address has changed from what was entered on your “Intent
to Graduate Application,” please contact the Registrar’s Office at epregistrar@ttuhsc.edu to ensure your diploma is delivered in a timely manner. Programs, video and other
material will also be made available online at ttuhscep.edu/commencement.
As always, my main priority is the health and well-being of our entire TTUHSC El Paso
community, and once we can safely gather to celebrate again, graduates from the class
of 2020 are welcome to join our next series of physical commencement ceremonies.
Once more, I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to each one of you. Your hard work
and dedication, now and throughout the years you’ve spent at TTUHSC El Paso, is felt
throughout the entire El Paso community. As you continue your journey, either in the
workforce or in the next step of your education, I am confident that your talents
will continue to help save and improve lives in the Borderland and nationwide.
