Planning an Educational Activity

This page provides the information and tools necessary to plan an educational activity designed for Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE). Activities may be developed to award credit for multiple healthcare professions, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and other members of the healthcare team.

Planning Process:

We encourage you to contact the Office of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) at the earliest stages of the planning process to ensure alignment with Joint Accreditation criteria, including interprofessional collaboration, independence, and outcomes-based education.

Please be prepared to discuss the following:

  1. Type of program:
    Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS), conference, live course, or enduring activity, and the type(s) of credit requested (e.g., physician, nursing, pharmacy, or interprofessional continuing education).
  2. Target audience and healthcare team involvement:
    Identification of the intended learners and how the activity will incorporate an interprofessional approach to support team-based care.
  3. Proposed dates:
    Adequate lead time is required for planning and review. (Please refer to fee schedule and timeline guidelines.)
  4. Activity Director and Planning Committee:
    Identification of individuals involved in planning, including representation from the healthcare team, as appropriate.
  5. Professional Practice Gap(s):
    A preliminary description of the identified gap(s) in knowledge, competence, or performance that the activity is intended to address. (This will be refined during the planning process.)
