Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Protocol for Medical Education Testing
Texas Tech Health El Paso requires students, residents, and staff using designated testing centers to bring and use their own laptop computers for assessments. This applies to the Medical Education Building (MEB) and the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing (GGHSON) testing centers.
Device Requirements
All students must possess and maintain a personal laptop that meets the minimum technical specifications required by their program and the educational platforms used by Texas Tech Health El Paso. These devices are essential for accessing exams, course materials, and educational tools.
Note: Tablets, mobile devices, and smartphones are not recommended or supported for testing or accessing certain course materials.
Student Responsibility
Students are responsible for:
- Keeping their device in working order and secure
- Ensuring compatibility with all required testing and learning platforms
- Following any additional technical expectations set by the institution
Use of unsupported or non-compliant devices may lead to delays in testing or alternative testing accommodations. Persistent non-compliance may be referred as a professionalism concern.
Technical Requirements and Support
Each learning platform may have its own system requirements. Students should regularly review the latest specifications using the following resources:
General Recommendations
- Use only supported versions of web browsers.
- Avoid laptops with touchscreen or virtual machine configurations.
- Ensure your device can connect via both Wi-Fi and Ethernet.
- A fast broadband connection is strongly recommended.
