Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

Welcome to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS).

The GSBS provides a wealth of opportunities for students to develop their interests along with a strong base of knowledge and experience to pursue successful careers in biomedical research and education.

The GSBS offers the following:

Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences

The M.S. in Biomedical Sciences is a two-year graduate degree program. The first year of study provides foundational coursework in the biomedical sciences. During the second year, students are exposed to research experiences in a broad range of laboratories. Our scientists are studiously exploring the dynamics of many different health issues, including cancer cell biology, HIV, influenza, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program

The post-baccalaureate certificate program is a one-year program with a biomedical studies core curriculum. Graduates of the post-baccalaureate program who have fulfilled all requirements for admission to TTUHSC El Paso’s Paul L. Foster School of Medicine are guaranteed a one-time interview. This one-time interview may take place either while the student is in the post-baccalaureate certificate program, or during the interview season immediately following successful completion of the certificate program.

Summer Accelerated Biomedical Research (SABR) Program

The SABR program is a 10-week paid internship. The program is an excellent educational opportunity with a commitment to fostering our interns' interest in science and research. The program is intended for undergraduate students who wish to gain more research experience before entering graduate school.
