Foster School of Medicine

Located along the U.S.-Mexico border, the Foster School of Medicine is preparing future providers of world-class patient care for transformational careers that will address health inequities in border communities and across the U.S.

Call To Action

Established in 2009, the Foster School of Medicine has educated hundreds of physicians who have gone on to address the nation’s health challenges and positively impact communities in El Paso and beyond. The medical school takes a nontraditional approach to clinical education, providing opportunities for patient interaction within the first year of their education and requiring medical Spanish courses to enhance communication with patients. Students are leaders in the border community and devote their time to volunteer work in student-run clinics that serve patients in underserved colonias.

795 students have graduated from the Foster School of Medicine, reducing physician shortages locally and across the U.S.
449 students are currently enrolled at the Foster School of Medicine with goals of becoming the nation’s next generation of culturally competent physicians
500 patients are seen annually by Foster School of Medicine students and faculty in the school’s Medical Student Run Clinic in Sparks, Texas
