Why choose Texas Tech Health El Paso?
The future of health care is here…

Hunt School of Dental Medicine
Addressing a Critical Need for Dental Care
In 2021, Texas Tech Health El Paso established the Hunt School of Dental Medicine—the first dental school on the U.S.-Mexico border and the first in Texas in over 50 years. This initiative comes at a crucial time for El Paso County, where there is only one dentist for every 4,840 residents, far exceeding the national average of one per 1,638.
Given that most dentists establish their practices near their alma mater, the Hunt School of Dental Medicine is poised to help alleviate the region's severe shortage of dental professionals, improving access to oral health care across the Borderplex.

Foster School of Medicine
Expanding Access to Health Care and Diversity in Medicine
The Foster School of Medicine is training physicians who understand the region’s unique health challenges. In its largest class to date, 22% of the class of 2025 are native El Pasoans, and 28% come from U.S.-Mexico border counties.
Since the school’s opening in 2008, El Paso County’s physician shortage has improved from 75% below the national average to 60%. Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso continues to bridge this gap, providing over $31 million in uncompensated care and 200,000+ clinic visits annually.
The school is also increasing diversity in medicine—21% of its 2022 graduates identified as Hispanic, compared to less than 6% of physicians nationwide.

Hunt School of Nursing
Training the Next Generation of Nurses for the Borderplex
The Hunt School of Nursing is dedicated to strengthening the region’s health care workforce. Today, 87% of its students are native El Pasoans, and 83% identify as Hispanic, helping to build a more diverse and culturally competent nursing workforce.
Before the school’s opening, El Paso County had a 40% nursing shortage compared to the national average. A decade later, that gap has been reduced to 20%, thanks to the school’s commitment to educating skilled nurses who stay and serve their communities.

Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
Advancing Biomedical Research and Diversity in STEM
With 81% of its students from El Paso and 100% from Texas, the Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences nurtures local talent while increasing diversity in STEM. More than half of its students identify as Hispanic, contributing to a more inclusive biomedical research field.
Students train in a research environment focused on critical health issues affecting the U.S.-Mexico border, including cancer, diabetes, and heart disease—driving discoveries that directly benefit the community.
