Prospective Applicants
Thank you for your interest in the Texas Tech Health El Paso Orthopaedic Residency Program. Our program offers a robust, comprehensive training environment to prepare residents for successful careers in orthopaedic surgery.
Residency Overview
- One (1) PGY-1 position is available annually through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
- This complements the four (4) military-matched PGY-1s, resulting in a total of five (5) PGY-1 residents per year.
- Our program is a fully ACGME-accredited five-year categorical residency.

Application Process
Applications are processed through the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). To be considered, applicants must submit the following:
- Three (3) letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- Medical school transcript
- Dean’s Letter
- ERAS-formatted CV
We also recommend including your USMLE Step 2 scores in your application.
Important Dates:
- Application Deadline: November 1st
- Interviews Conducted: Early January
There is no specific score cut-off for USMLE Step 1 or Step 2.
Screening and Selection Criteria
Applications are screened by faculty from the William Beaumont Army Medical Center and the Texas Tech Health El Paso Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. Invitations to interview are based on:
- Medical school grades
- USMLE scores
- ERAS application details
- Letters of recommendation
- Performance on home and away clinical rotations
