Prospective Applicants
Thank you for your interest in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Orthopaedic Residency Program. Each year, we offer three (3) PGY-1 positions through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
Residency Overview
- Three (3) resident appointments are made each year through the National Resident Matching Program.
- Resident appointments have a July 1 start date.
- Applicants match at the PGY-1 year into an ACGME-accredited five-year categorical program.

Application Process
Prospective applicants for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso are processed through the ERAS system. All complete applications are considered, and the deadline for applications each year is November 1st.
Applicants must submit the following:
- Three letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- Medical school transcript
- Dean’s Letter
- ERAS-formatted CV
We recommend including USMLE Step 2 in your application. There is no score “cut-off.”
Application Review and Interviews
Applications are screened by members of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation.
Invitations to interview for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Orthopaedic Residency Program are based on multiple factors, including:
- Medical school transcript
- USMLE or COMLEX scores
- ERAS application data
- Letters of recommendation
- Research experience
- Performance on both home and away clinical rotations
Interviews will be held in person, typically conducted in early January, with a meet-and-greet dinner with faculty the night before the interview.
