Mission

The mission of the Paul L. Foster school medicine department of obstetrics and gynecology is multi-faceted, focusing on education, patient care, and research. The primary goal is to educate medical students and residents to become the next generation of top-quality providers in women’s health care. The department aims to distinguish itself by delivering the highest quality and safest patient care, utilizing a compassionate, patient-centered, and culturally sensitive model. 

In addition to education and patient care, research is highlighted as an essential component. The department emphasizes contributing to the expansion of knowledge about women’s health, particularly in the unique context of the U.S.-Mexico border region. The commitment to cutting-edge educational activities encompasses these three critical components: education, patient care, and research. Together, they form the foundation of the department’s overarching mission.

Vision

The obstetrics and gynecology department at the Paul L. Foster school of medicine aims to be a welcoming and collaborative environment for learners and teachers. The focus is on patient care, emphasizing a patient-centered approach and active patient engagement and cultural sensitivity. The department is committed to cutting–edge research, maintaining high standards of scholarship and interest. A robust quality improvement system is in place to continuously enhance patient care, including the use of simulation in education for superior outcomes. The innovative approaches of the department attract faculty, students and leadership at Texas Tech Health El Paso, contributing to the programs’ dedication to serving the border community.
