Program Admission Requirements
All applicants to the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) track must complete online applications listed on the Accelerated B.S.N. website. Applicants may apply while prerequisite coursework is in progress; however, all required prerequisite coursework must be completed before enrollment.
Academic Requirements
Applicants must meet the following academic admission considerations to be reviewed:
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for:
- Cumulative GPA
- Science GPA
- Admission GPA: Admission GPA calculations include all applicable grades from every college or university attended. Repeated courses and failed coursework may also be considered during the admission review.
- Prerequisite coursework completed at application: At the time of application, applicants must have completed at least 44 of the 55 required prerequisite credit hours. Completed coursework must include at least three of the following four required
laboratory science courses:
- Chemistry (4 credit hours)
- Anatomy and Physiology I (4 credit hours)
- Anatomy and Physiology II (4 credit hours)
- Microbiology (4 credit hours)
- Minimum grade requirement: All prerequisite coursework must be completed with a grade of C or better before enrollment in the first nursing course. For application review purposes, courses in progress will be calculated using the minimum acceptable grade of C. Final admission and enrollment are contingent upon successful completion of all prerequisite requirements with grades of C or better.
HESI Assessment Exam
- HESI or TEAS assessment: Applicants must submit a HESI or TEAS assessment with a composite score of 75 or higher as part of the application.
- Score validity: Assessment scores must be dated within one calendar year of the application submission. All required assessment sections must be completed in a single sitting.
- Registration: Applicants are encouraged to use the GGHSON Department ID when registering for the assessment.
- Questions: For more information, contact the Hunt School of Nursing Office of Student Affairs at 915-215-6124.
Texas Core Curriculum
- Applicants must satisfy the Texas Core Curriculum requirements.
- Holistic admission review: Applications are reviewed individually by the Admissions Committee. No single attribute determines an admission decision.
- Admission capacity: The number of students offered admission depends on a variety of factors, including financial resources, classroom space, and available clinical experiences.
Additional Considerations
- Criminal Background Check:
- All applicants who receive offers of admission must consent to a criminal background check.
- A history of criminal conduct or convictions may result in withdrawal of the admission offer.
- Review the Criminal Background Checks policy in the HSON Student Handbook
- Eligibility for RN Licensure:
- The Board of Nurse Examiners has identified circumstances that may make a potential candidate ineligible for licensure as a registered nurse in Texas.
- Review licensure eligibility requirements before applying if you have questions about your eligibility.
- Review NCLEX-RN Examination Eligibility in the HSON Catalog or visit the Texas Board of Nursing website.
