Application Process – General Surgery Residency Program
The General Surgery Residency Program at Texas Tech Health El Paso's Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is a five-year program accredited by ACGME. We welcome applications for both PGY-1 Categorical (5 positions) and PGY-1 preliminary (3 positions).
Application Process
- Submit your application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
- Include the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Personal Statement
- Official medical school transcript
- Dean’s letter
- Three current letters of recommendation
- Medical school diploma
- USMLE transcript (Step I and II - passed on the first attempt; COMLEX accepted)
- ABSITE reports (if applicable)
- Letter from current program director (for applicants with prior residency/fellowship experience)
Eligibility Criteria
- Graduation date within five years of application submission (recent graduates preferred).
- Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Graduates from LCME-accredited U.S. or Canadian medical schools.
- Graduates from AOA-accredited osteopathic programs in the U.S.
- International graduates with ECFMG certification and one year of U.S. clinical experience (observerships, externships, or research not included).
- Texas Tech Health El Paso is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas.
Additional Information
- Interviews are conducted virtually via Zoom from November to January.
- Texas Tech Health El Paso participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
- Our program participates in the ERAS Supplemental Application and the NRMP Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP).
