Application Process – General Surgery Residency Program
The General Surgery Residency Program at Texas Tech Health El Paso's Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is a five-year program accredited by ACGME. We welcome applications for both PGY-1 categorical (4 positions) and PGY-1 preliminary (3 positions).
Application Process
- Submit your application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
- Include the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Personal Statement
- Official medical school transcript
- Dean’s letter
- Three current letters of recommendation
- Medical school diploma
- USMLE transcript (Step I & II scores ≥ 220, passed on the first attempt; COMLEX accepted)
- ABSITE reports (if applicable)
- Letter from current program director (for applicants with prior residency/fellowship experience)
Eligibility Criteria
- Graduation date within five years of application submission (recent graduates preferred).
- Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Graduates from LCME-accredited U.S. or Canadian medical schools.
- Graduates from AOA-accredited osteopathic programs in the U.S.
- International graduates with ECFMG certification and one year of U.S. clinical experience (observerships, externships, or research not included).
Additional Information
- Interviews are conducted virtually via Webex from October to January. Selected applicants will be contacted by the program coordinator.
- Texas Tech Health El Paso participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
- Our program participates in the 2024 ERAS Supplemental Application and the NRMP Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP).
