Application Process – General Surgery Residency Program

The General Surgery Residency Program at Texas Tech Health El Paso's Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is a five-year program accredited by ACGME. We welcome applications for both PGY-1 categorical (4 positions) and PGY-1 preliminary (3 positions).

 

Application Process

  1. Submit your application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
  2. Include the following documents:
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Personal Statement
    • Official medical school transcript
    • Dean’s letter
    • Three current letters of recommendation
    • Medical school diploma
    • USMLE transcript (Step I & II scores ≥ 220, passed on the first attempt; COMLEX accepted)
    • ABSITE reports (if applicable)
    • Letter from current program director (for applicants with prior residency/fellowship experience)

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduation date within five years of application submission (recent graduates preferred).
  • Applicants must meet one of the following:
    • Graduates from LCME-accredited U.S. or Canadian medical schools.
    • Graduates from AOA-accredited osteopathic programs in the U.S.
    • International graduates with ECFMG certification and one year of U.S. clinical experience (observerships, externships, or research not included).
