Training Rotation Sites
Our fellowship program offers diverse training experiences at various rotation sites.
Each location provides unique opportunities to develop expertise in child and adolescent
psychiatry.
Consultation-Liaison Service
Fellows gain hands-on experience in the psychosomatic aspects of psychiatry through
the Consultation-Liaison team, which serves El Paso Children’s Hospital and University Medical Center of El Paso. This rotation focuses on managing psychiatric illnesses within the context of medical
comorbidities, offering invaluable insights into integrated care.
Ysleta Independent School District (YISD)
Through a partnership with YISD, fellows provide services at a comprehensive care
center clinic for students. Responsibilities include medication management and referrals
for additional services, such as counseling. This rotation enhances fellows' skills
in addressing mental health needs within an educational setting.
Indian Health Service (Tigua Tribe)
Fellows work with the Tigua tribe through the Indian Health Service, offering care
to Native American adults and children/adolescents. This unique rotation emphasizes
the cultural dimensions of psychiatry, providing a diverse and enriching training
experience. Child and adolescent fellows are supervised by attending faculty specializing
in this area.
Emergence Health Network (EHN)
At EHN, fellows engage with patients through the Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC)
program for first-episode psychosis. Under the guidance of child and adolescent psychiatry
faculty, fellows gain autonomy and experience managing a distinctive patient population
with complex mental health needs.
Juvenile Probation Department (JPD)
Fellows provide services to detained juveniles in El Paso County through a partnership
with JPD. This rotation offers exposure to substance use, personality traits, and
psychosocial challenges unique to juveniles involved in the legal system.
El Paso Child Guidance Center
Fellows serve the underserved population of the Paseo Del Norte Region through the El Paso Child Guidance Center. This community psychiatry rotation allows fellows to address the mental health needs of this special population under the supervision of board-certified child and adolescent psychiatry faculty.
