Athletic Coverage & On-Field Experiences

Our sports medicine fellows gain hands-on experience by providing medical care to athletes across a wide range of sports. These opportunities allow fellows to apply their skills in real-time settings and treat athletes at different levels of competition. Fellows will gain exposure to high school, NCAA Division 1, and professional athletes through a variety of athletic coverage experiences.

Professional Sports Teams

Fellows will provide care for athletes in professional sports, offering valuable exposure to the demands of elite-level competition.

Fellows will have the chance to work with athletes at the college level, specifically with the University of Texas at El Paso, gaining experience with NCAA Division 1 athletes.

On-Field Experience: Skill Development

Through these varied experiences, our fellows will:

  • Develop hands-on skills in managing athlete injuries and providing on-field medical care.
  • Build expertise in event medical management, especially for large-scale participation events.
  • Learn about the logistics of race planning, as many of our faculty members also serve as race medical directors.
  • Understand the impact of large events on city infrastructure, including medical needs for mass participation races and events.
