Community Engagement

The Heart of Our Program

Our Community Health Workers (CHWs): Promotores

Our Community Health Workers (CHWs)/Promotores are the cornerstone of our success. They are trusted members of the El Paso community, serving as vital bridges between healthcare systems and residents. By mobilizing CHWs, we extend vital health education and services directly into the communities that need them most. Their deep understanding of local culture and language, combined with their training, allows them to provide community responsive support and education, directly addressing health disparities and building trust in health systems. Their effectiveness in improving public health outcomes, addressing social determinants of health, and preventing chronic diseases in underserved communities is well-documented in research.

Inspiring the Next Generation: Student Involvement

Our outreach efforts are powered by the dedication of Texas Tech Health El Paso students across various disciplines. Medical, nursing, dental, and graduate biomedical sciences students contribute their skills and compassion interprofessionally by participating together in community events, facilitating workshops, and conducting direct outreach. This involvement not only strengthens our community connections, but also prepares the next generation of healthcare providers to lead with a focus on community-responsive health education and a commitment to serving our local and regional population.
