Application Process
The Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The program offers advanced residency positions, with radiology training beginning at the PGY-2 level after completion of an ACGME-accredited clinical postgraduate year (PGY-1).
How to Apply
Follow these steps to prepare and submit your application.
Submit your application through ERAS
Complete your ERAS residency application and upload the required supporting materials.
Prepare supporting materials
The program considers the application, medical school transcript, medical school dean's letter, and letters of recommendation. The department's Diagnostic Radiology Residency FAQs indicate that a letter from a radiologist is helpful but is not specifically required.
Review application timing
The department recommends submitting a complete ERAS application by October for initial screening and indicates that applications may continue to be reviewed through early December. Confirm current-cycle deadlines with the residency program.
Applicant Selection
Selection is based on criteria which are not influenced by race, gender, age, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
Ranking and selection of applicants is made on the basis of information contained in the application form, medical school transcript, medical school dean's letter, and letters of recommendation. Other factors are communication skills, motivation, and integrity.
Prior to accepting an applicant, the program director shall ensure that the applicant has passed USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 and Step 2. Applicants should confirm the current examination requirements with the program.
International Medical Graduates
The program considers international medical graduates and, according to the department's FAQs, sponsors J-1 visas only. Applicants seeking J-1 sponsorship should review the ECFMG Exchange Visitor Sponsorship Program for eligibility and application information.
Credentialing and Texas Training Authorization
Applicants must also pass credentialing, as conducted by Texas Tech Health El Paso. All residents are required to secure a Texas Medical Board Physician-in-Training Permit or have a Texas Medical License. Review the Texas Medical Board Physician-in-Training Permit application instructions.
