Neurology Research at Texas Tech Health El Paso

The Department of Neurology at Texas Tech Health El Paso is the largest and longest-standing neuroscience practice in El Paso. Our mission is to advance neurological research and care for the unique population along the U.S.–Mexico border

Key Research Highlights

Expert Team:

  • 9 Principal Investigators and 6 Full-Time Research Nurse Practitioners.
  • Expanding faculty to meet the growing demand for neurological specialists in West Texas.

Active Studies:

  • 14 Clinical Trials (Phase II–IV).
  • 8 Humanitarian Device Studies and 2 National Clinical Registries.
  • Focus areas include stroke, traumatic brain injury, fibromuscular dysplasia, peripheral nerve disorders, and investigational oral factor inhibitors.

Collaborative Efforts:

  • Partnerships with University Medical Center of El Paso and The Hospitals of Providence El Paso.
  • Compliance with GCP and IRB standards for rigorous, ethical research.

 

Our Vision for Research

Our department aims to become the foremost neurology research center in the Southwest by:

  • Providing protected research time and formal mentoring for faculty and residents.
  • Expanding telehealth services to rural communities in the West Texas region.
  • Securing external federal, state, and local grant funding.
  • Addressing regional health needs during the COVID-19 era and beyond.
