Neurology Residency Program Curriculum
Our residency program provides a well-rounded curriculum tailored to develop expertise across all aspects of neurology. Below is an overview of the rotations and training schedule for each postgraduate year (PGY).
PGY-1: Foundational Training
Residents complete their preliminary year in collaboration with internal medicine and neurology departments. Two possible tracks are available:
Track 1
- 2 months: ICU
- 2 months: Wards
- 1 month: CCU
- 3 months: Consults via Internal Medicine fellowships
- 4 months: Neurology
Track 2
- 2 months: ICU
- 2 months: Wards
- 1 month: CCU
- 1 month: Consults via Internal Medicine fellowships
- 2 months: Emergency Medicine (EM)
- 4 months: Neurology
PGY-2: Core Neurology Training
- 4 months: Inpatient (floor) service
- 4 months: NeuroICU/Stroke service
- 1 month: Neuroradiology
- 2 months: Outpatient Neurology Clinic
- 1 month: Psychiatry
PGY-3: Advanced Clinical Experience
- 3 months: Inpatient (floor) service
- 2 months: Epilepsy and EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) service
- 2 months: Outpatient Neurology Clinic
- 2 months: Neuromuscular and EMG service
- 3 months: Child Neurology (rotations at various institutions):
- Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – Amarillo
- UT San Antonio
- Baylor College of Medicine – Houston
PGY-4: Subspecialty and Elective Focus
- 3 months: Outpatient Neurology Clinic
- 1 month: Epilepsy and EMU service
- 5 months: Inpatient (floor) service
- 3 months: Electives (select from the following options):
- Sleep
- Neuro-Ophthalmology
- Pain Management
- Neurointervention
- Research
- Away Rotation
