About the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program
Established in 2011, the Gastroenterology Fellowship at Texas Tech Health El Paso provides specialized training to prepare physicians for impactful careers in the underserved U.S.-Mexico border region. The program welcomed its first class of fellows in 2012, with a mission to develop skilled gastroenterologists ready to serve diverse populations.
Training at a Premier Facility
Our primary training site, University Medical Center of El Paso, is a nonprofit, county-owned hospital and Level I Trauma Center with 354 beds. In 2022 alone, this high-volume center reported over 20,000 patient admissions, providing fellows with extensive hands-on experience in endoscopy and inpatient care.
Program Outcomes and Opportunities
Graduates of our fellowship program meet the eligibility requirements of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) for the gastroenterology board exam. Our alumni go on to successful roles in advanced fellowship training, academic medicine, and clinical practice, equipped with the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional values essential for the field of gastroenterology.
