Our Mission
The Division of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) Research advances the science of family medicine by generating knowledge that improves health outcomes for the predominantly Hispanic U.S.-Mexico border population. Our goal is to be nationally recognized for high-quality primary care research that reduces health disparities and enhances community well-being.
Our Programs
Research Focus: Cancer Prevention and Control
Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in the U.S., with early diagnosis and prevention being critical for improved survival rates. Our division is dedicated to addressing the disproportionate burden of breast and cervical cancer in our community by:
- Enhancing cancer screening rates
- Conducting community-based participatory research
- Improving patient-provider communication
- Promoting health education and prevention initiatives

We collaborate closely with Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Cancer Center of Emphasis, benefitting from:
