Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum is designed to provide a balanced mix of clinical practice, procedural training, and academic development. Residents benefit from a robust schedule of weekly didactics, trauma grand rounds, and case-based learning opportunities.
Yearly Breakdown
PGY-1: Building a Foundation
- Emergency Department (5 months): Develop clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills
- Off-Service Rotations (7 months):
- MICU, SICU
- Toxicology, OB/GYN, Ophthalmology
- Orthopedics, Anesthesia
- Focus: Case formulation, diagnosis, and presenting to supervisor
PGY-2: Advancing Skills and Leadership
- Emergency Department (Majority of the year): Take on senior resident responsibilities
- Off-Service Rotations:
- CVICU/Neuro ICU
- Ultrasound
- Trauma/Surgical ICU (Night Float)
- Focus: Teaching junior residents, critical care, and procedural experience
PGY-3: Leadership and Supervision
- Emergency Department (11 months): Lead and supervise junior residents
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Administration rotation
- Elective month
- Research and quality improvement projects
- Two-week rural EM rotation
Chief Resident Opportunities:
Up to three residents are selected annually as Chief Residents, providing advanced training in teaching and administration, ideal for those pursuing academic careers.
