Microbiology |
3 semester hours (or 5 quarter hours) Microbiology will count toward fulfilling the Biological Sciences requirement. |

Admission Requirements

TMDSAS Application, Complete: Out-of-State and In-State Applicants
- Fee through TMDSAS (TMDSAS does not grant application fee waivers.)
- Standardized Test: The Dental Admission Test (DAT) is required. Scores over three years old will not
be considered.
- Covers natural sciences, perceptual ability, reading comprehension, and quantitative reasoning.
- Residency Preference: Texas law limits non-resident students to 10% (maximum of 6 students per cohort).
- Official Transcript(s)
- Prerequisite Coursework: Must be taken for a grade of C or higher; Pass/Fail is not accepted. (Prerequisite courses taken Pass/Fail are accepted for Spring and Summer 2020 due to COVID-19. For Fall 2020, P/F courses will only count if no graded option was available. Starting Spring 2021, letter grades are required for all prerequisite courses.)
- 2 Letters of Evaluation or a Health Advisor Packet Evaluation
- Transfer Students: WLHSDM does not accept transfer or advanced standing students.
Academic Eligibility
- Degree Requirement: Completion of at least 90 semester hours at a regionally accredited U.S. or Canadian college/university.
- International Students: WLHSDM does not have an international program.
- Recommended Majors: No favored major, but science courses are critical for success.
Experience and Application Enhancements
- Patient Exposure: Demonstrate depth and breadth of shadowing or volunteer experience in dental settings.
- Research Experience: Not required but enhances application strength.
- Holistic Admission: The admissions committee values academic success, life experiences, and personal growth.
* There is not a minimum number of hours required for admission. However, the admissions committee prefers evidence of depth and breadth of patient exposure and dental shadowing.
