Digital accessibility applies to public websites, online forms, documents, course materials, multimedia, software, mobile applications, and other electronic information resources. Accessibility is a shared and ongoing responsibility that begins when content or technology is planned and continues through design, development, testing, publication, and maintenance.
Why Digital Accessibility Matters
Texas Tech Health El Paso is committed to ensuring full access to its digital resources, programs, and services. This aligns with federal mandates requiring public institutions to make their websites and mobile apps accessible to people with disabilities.
The U.S. Department of Justice's Title II web accessibility rule requires full compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines by April 24, 2027. Texas Tech Health El Paso is proactively adopting WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards to ensure an even higher level of accessibility across all digital platforms.

Accommodations

Understanding WCAG
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are organized around four principles. Accessible digital content should be:
- Perceivable. Information is available in formats people can perceive, such as text alternatives for images and captions for video.
- Operable. Interfaces can be used with a keyboard and not create keyboard traps or require precise pointer movements.
- Understandable. Content is clear, instructions are consistent, and interactions behave predictably.
- Robust. Content works with current and future browsers, assistive technologies, and other user agents.
