Message from the Program Director

Anjana Nair, M.D., FACOG, FMIGS, NCMP

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the OB-GYN Residency Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso / The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus.  We are guided by our mission that aligns with the core values of the organization: diversity, inclusion and high-quality compassionate care. We seek to train a diverse group of obstetricians/ gynecologists who are compassionate, skilled clinicians who will provide care and advocate for women’s health.

Three positions are available for each year of training. We have a curriculum that balances education, hands-on training, simulation training and clinical research that prepares our graduates for independent clinical practice (as an academic generalist or generalist in private practice) or to pursue fellowship training. Our residents will have exposure to academic generalists, sub specialists and a large group of community physicians in private practice, all of whom are dedicated to training the next generation of OB-GYN physicians and will serve as teachers and mentors to our trainees. Each resident is required to complete a research project that will be done under the guidance of a faculty mentor and with support from the research coordinator and statistician. The program offers the opportunity to utilize cutting-edge technology, including simulation training and robotic training, as well as certification in the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS).

Besides our Transmountain campus, residents will spend time at The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus for additional clinical experience and learning opportunities. Faculty supervision is always readily available to ensure progressive responsibility and autonomy. The program is committed to the wellness of its residents and team members. We strive for a culture of education and to have comradery for an optimal training environment for growth and development.

As a newly accredited residency program, we have the opportunity to create an outstanding training program with input from our trainees. The leadership at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and The Hospitals of Providence are committed to the success of the residency program and have provided state-of-the-art facilities and resources. We take great pride in our faculty and staff. Our unique geographic location gives us the opportunity serve the border community.

I hope that the program will instill the passion and foundation for life-long learning and enable you to be successful in your career.  Please feel to contact me with any questions about our program. I look forward to meeting you in person in El Paso!
